I am pleased to announce that the 40th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Toxicologic Pathology will be held at Curian (Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, Japan) on January 23 (Tuesday) and 24 (Wednesday), 2024. The theme of the annual meeting is "Do We Know Everything Already? - The ever-expanding world of pathology -". In the field of clinical pathology, the importance of pathological diagnosis is increasing as pathological diagnosis becomes indispensable to determine the indication of molecular-targeted drugs. On the other hand, in the non-clinical field, there is a movement to blindly replace in vivo studies with in vitro studies in the name of animal welfare, and it is sometimes claimed that all studies can be performed in vitro based on the mechanism. Of course, the 3R principle must be adhered to, but we also need to be respectful and curious about the phenomena of life, and humbly seek lessons from them. By layering detailed examination that incorporate new technologies on top of basic pathological observations, we should be able to see the invisible, just as in the clinically pathology.
- Recently, the number of airplanes departing from the Tokyo International Airport, which is located across the gentle flow of the Tama River and on the opposite bank of the National Institute of Health Sciences, has increased dramatically. After the long pandemic of the COVID-19, we hope that it is time for us to spread our new wings. At this meeting, oral presentations, including special lectures, symposia, and workshops, will be live-streamed, and poster presentations will be held onsite with chairpersons for the first time in four years.
- We hope that not only mid-career and experienced researchers but also young researchers who have missed the opportunity to present their research in the past four years will participate in this Annual Meeting. We will make every effort to provide opportunities for them to present their research results and enjoy the fun of discussion. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Katsuhiko Yoshizawa, Chairperson of the Program Committee, and all the members of the Program Committee, as well as all the related companies and organizations for their cooperation. We look forward to your active participation and working with you to create an exciting Annual Meeting.
